CAUCE is an all-volunteer Internet end-user trust and safety advocacy organization.

CAUCE is led by a Board of Directors with literally centuries of cumulative experience in Internet advocacy and consultation with governments, NGOs, law enforcement agencies, and trade associations.

CAUCE maintains a focus on messaging security; be it email, direct message, text, or social media discourse, our mission is to defend the privacy rights of Internet users, and support anti-abuse work in all its forms. We do so by


– Providing instruction and professional development to law enforcement agents and security researchers in developing nations, in person or remotely, by demonstrating the latest tools and techniques in cyber-investigations.
– Consulting and providing input to governmental and international policy, regulation, and law, and
– Fostering, developing, and supporting published research projects that advance our stated goals.

Our History

The Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email (CAUCE) originated from discussions held as early as 1995 regarding finding a legal solution to the burgeoning problem of spam in the United States.

CAUCE U.S. began formal work in May 1997; CAUCE Canada was formed a year later in June of 1998. The two organizations merged in March 2007 to form CAUCE North America Inc.
